Forget Me Nots

This morning Ivey-loo-whoo set off to begin her second week of school.  From the looks of things, she was not quite in school mode this morning.

This is how this week is starting.

When I say she is a ham, she is A ham!

Matt sent the picture since he is on the rotation of taking her to school this week.  I think Ivey may have figured out that she has started back to school but the boys have not.  I'm sure this is her way of protesting.

While Ivey is working hard at school, the boys are officially winding down summer and gearing up for school.  Walker actually said last week that he misses his friends and is ready for school.  The boys are all registered for school with uniforms being pulled out of summer storage and new shoes revving to go.  Personally I'm not ready for summer to end.

The boys and Ivey are obviously in two different school systems.  Ivey is in our county school system and the boys attend a private school.  I get tickled as the school years gear up.  Tickled, but exasperated at times.  For Ivey the beginning of the school year is exciting, she is surrounded by great educators.  At the end of each year we meet, form the new IEP, and think toward the future.  So the beginning of the year is never a big surprise.  This year Ivey will have a new speech therapist.  We are going to missssss Mrs. Libby, but I have great faith that the "team" that supports Ivey will lead her and guide her and teach her the ropes, the deaf blind technique ropes.  And, I believe the new person wants to do her best with my daughter.  They all want the best.  I also know that everyday will not be a picnic.  I also know that no one goes into special education without an underlying realization that their days will be a little more challenging than other areas of education.  That is a fact, not opinion.

With the boys the beginning of a school year starts off a little differently.  In the weeks leading up to the first day of school we

She really needs to be in a harnessed seat. Thats very dangerous. If you get in an accident she would suffer from major internal damage. Please look on car seat. Org for more info.

OH for the Love of God. She is in a carseat. Seriously?! Look closer. She had a blanket and put it over her head...and 5-point harness carseat. Do you really think we've kept this baby girl alive - a.l.i.v.e. - for all these years through hell and back to not put her in a carseat. Really?

Clearly Anonymous does not have x-ray eyes. :)

My son loves to pull blankets over his head, too, anywhere he is if he has a favorite blanket.

All my best!

BEAUTIFUL GREEN EYES........

Submitting to Lack of Control

When Ivey was a baby, I literally had drawers and spaces in her closet labeled, everything had a space, a place.  One special friend loved showing off Ivey's closet to newbies coming by for a visit. This level of organization mystified my friend. Secretly, I wanted to go back to haphazardness.  Justifying why I did this is simple.  At the time, I had friends helping me with my laundry, as were my mom and some night nurses.  With so many people, I found it more efficient, for all of us, to label everything.  No one had to search or guess where things belonged.   This approach to find order has only amplified with time. I have come to accept that being Ivey's mom has brought out a controlling aspect in my personality. For the record, I have always found peace in order and organization.  It could be described as controlling, maybe.  Ivey ramped up my need for order. On her hard days, or in times leading up to what I know will be hard, my need for order raises it’s merciless head.

Ivey Elizabeth Sirmans

Ivey Elizabeth Sirmans was born Tuesday April, 25th at 5:26 a.m. She weighed 5 lbs 11 oz and is 17 inches long. She has beautiful long fingers and toes like Gwen, and her hair is dark like Matt's. She loves to be touched and is happiest when she is being held. Ivey is a strong little one who is breathing on her own. Her strength is a blessing as she will face some challenges in the future. The initial genetic testing showed Ivey has a partial deletion of chromosome 21. There are many tests pending, and as we find out more, we will let everyone know those results. She has a double cleft palate and a cleft lip which will require surgery at some point in the future. She is blind. She has had one hearing test which will be repeated due to the noisy NICU. The aortic valve in her heart has 2 leaflets instead of 3, but despite this, her heart is working wonderfully. Currently, she has a feeding tube in her nose, and she is learning how to nurse from a bottle. Once her feeding is successfu
